OFM News reported on the gathering between municipal workers and their union, the South African Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu), to raise concerns regarding the metro's delayed employment of a City Manager.

The Mangaung Metro Municipality's spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, tells OFM News that the workers will receive their salaries. This comes after the Mangaung council voted in favour of the appointment of Mzingisi Nkungwana, the Directorate of Social Services' head, as the new acting City Manager of Manaung.

OFM News previously reported that the Mangaung Metro Council removed former acting City Manager, Sello More, in an unusual manner as the accounting officer.

According to SAMWU regional secretary, Lucky Sebogo, The Mangaung municipality workers were adamant about their demands for the appointment of a city manager. This is based on the fact that a municipalitys city manager is also the municipalities accounting officer which means means without the appoint of a city manager municipal works can't legally receive their salaries.
