Contractors have reinforced the road surface of the accident-prone section of the R30 road outside Allanridge in the Free State - in an effort to curb further incidents.

Previously only one side of the small stretch of gravel road between Allanridge and Bothaville was open for vehicles to pass, with a stop-and-go process in place.

Yet another accident on Sunday has forced contractors to reinforce the gravel road and open up both sides of the road to avoid any confusion - which is allegedly the cause of Sunday's accident which left another car at the bottom of the body of water.

OFM News was at the scene and reports this gravel section isn’t the only problem on this road.

Before one reaches Welkom on the R30, there is a body of water seeping into the road, and one can safely assume that if there is any more rainfall, that part of the road could pose a bigger threat to motorists.

The rest of the R30 appears to be okay for one to drive on, but the OFM News team observed the disturbing speed at which some motorists drive across this stretch of road.

Two weeks ago, 10 accidents occurred here.

In early February, the road garnered national attention after an Intercape passenger bus liner ended up trapped in this exact body of water. The 45-year-old driver of the bus was slapped with a reckless and negligent driving charge for ignoring road signs ahead of this road.

The bus, carrying 86 women, children, and men, was reportedly en route to Pretoria from Umtata in the Eastern Cape. No injuries were reported.
