Another day without water in the City of Roses─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 11:15 Wed, 23 Mar 2022

At least 70% of Mangaung could be without water for at least another day.
A statement released by the DA in the metro details that the possibility of water returning to the southern suburbs relies on when the repairs of the troubled pipeline at the Welbedacht Dam will be completed.
Since Tuesday night, residents in areas in the north of Bloemfontein were also met with empty taps. In addition, the Brandkop Reservoir is still without water, however, it is expected the situation will change during the course of Wednesday.
OFM News previously reported this follows after a pipeline burst at the dam, which is also linked to the death of an employee of the city's bulk water supplier, Bloem Water. Assurance from the Mangaung Metro Municipality, together with Bloem Water, has been given to Bloemfontein residents who were affected by the pipeline burst, that water tankers will be made available.

Meanwhile, the water situation has also affected two of the biggest hospitals in the province. Universitas and Pelonomi Hospitals have had to postpone surgeries due to water interruptions. Health Department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says the hospital reservoirs are under pressure and the facilities are now forced to only perform high-risk and life threatening surgeries, and postponing others.
Elsewhere, the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, is holding a briefing on the state of water in the country, as it is Water Week.
