The new headmaster of Grey College secondary school has been appointed.

The Bloemfontein-based boys' school confirmed on social media late on Tuesday night that Braam van Wyk is to take the reigns as the eleventh principal of the school.

Van Wyk was previously headmaster at the St Michael's School for girls in the Free State capital, and follows in the footsteps of Deon Scheepers, who served as the head of Grey until the end of the 2021 academic year.

OFM News previously reported that Scheepers’ nine-year tenure as the head of the well-known Bloemfontein boys' school became shrouded in controversy in 2018, when the school’s governing body (SGB), then led by Henry Büchner, unilaterally stripped him of most of his responsibilities as headmaster citing a breakdown in trust on the part of the SGB.

Despite this tension, former Grey College spokesperson, Marzaan Venter, told OFM News at the time that Scheepers was a wonderful and innovative leader and that he would be sorely missed.
