Payment delays at metro to be investigated─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:31 Fri, 29 Apr 2022

Municipal officials, among others, who might have caused the delay in the payment of workers, could find themselves in hot water.
Workers staged a disruptive protest at the troubled, Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro over the non-payment of their salaries.

The acting City Manager (CM), Tebogo Motlashuping, recently announced that the metro will also be looking into the metro’s overtime and acting procedures.
In a statement, the new acting CM says the verification will be done and later on an investigation will ensue to assist the administration in coming up with permanent solutions regarding overtime and acting allowances. Motlashuping adds that disciplinary action will be instituted against parties at fault. According to workers, some of them received as little as R100 or R46 in their bank accounts on Tuesday morning.
“As part of its responsibilities to improve the city’s financial viability, the national intervention team will also be looking into the metro’s overtime and acting procedures. It was not our intention that workers will not receive their monies. We have made a commitment that payroll will capture all the outstanding payments that by Friday 29… we've only had less than a week, and have already unearthed many issues that make workers dissatisfied. When you have a dissatisfied workforce, it impacts negatively on the performance of the institution and results in the collapse of services,” Motlashuping further adds.
