The Free State Hawks have vowed to clamp down hard on perpetrators of alleged serious corruption.

Whilst addressing Mangaung Metro's municipal officials at Friday’s Hawks anti-fraud and corruption workshop, the Hawks Provincial Commander for Serious Corruption, Brigadier, Nico Gerber, warned of serious consequences for fraud and corruption.

He told municipal officials of the troubled Metro, which is currently under the national government’s administration, that as public servants they have the responsibility to ensure that they serve the people of Mangaung.

Gerber added that "people are busy lining their pockets."

OFM News previously reported that the Hawks is investigating a case of alleged fraud and corruption at the main depot of the Metro's Solid Waste Management Sub-Directorate.

"People are busy lining their pockets and we are here to empower you in the environment where you work so that you can be the eyes and ears of the Hawks. We all need to work together to hold the people who are corrupt accountable. Our people are living under terrible conditions, and as you sit here, you have the power to turn things around for the people we serve," Gerber said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Executive Mayor, Mapaseka Mothibi-Nkoane also addressed the employees during the workshop, saying she hopes that they understand the consequences of corruption, and that the poor are the ones who suffer the most because of it/
