SAC dismisses Mangaung Metro Police appeal─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:31 Mon, 30 May 2022
The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein has confirmed a Free State High Court Judgment, dismissing an application dealing with the controversial Mangaung Metropolitan Police Services’ HOD.
A senior manager at the metro approached the High Court, challenging the appointment of the current HOD, but his application was dismissed by Judges Celeste Reinders and Abe Mathebula respectively.
The application by the senior manager petitioned the High Court to set aside the appointment of the current department head, arguing that his appointment was not in accordance with the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Act, and was not fit head the department.
His application was then dismissed with cost, but he was given leave to approach the SCA on the matter.
However, the SCA’s judgment says after carefully considering the facts before it- it concluded that the High Court correctly dismissed the application with costs.
Meanwhile, Metro spokesperson Qondile Khedama tells OFM News the municipality notes and acknowledges the SCA ruling.
OFM News reported the National Department of Treasury has shot down the planned Bloemfontein-based, cash-strapped Metro Police establishment.
