Millions spent on motorists’ claims | News Article

The Department of Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State has paid out over R1.8 million in civil claims over the four previous financial years.

DA member of the National Council of Provinces, George Michalakis, explains that the amount that has been claimed amounts to at least one claim against the department per day.

The civil claims seem to be from road users who suffered damages due to potholes on provincial roads.

Michalakis stated that the money that has been claimed also represents roughly 1 500 non-fatal pothole accidents over four years.
