#GBV in Free State 'unbearable'─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:46 Mon, 20 Jun 2022
The Free State Government has vowed to augment its efforts in the fight against escalating gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide.
This promise was made during the funeral of a Qwaqwa woman who was murdered - allegedly by her son - last week.
OFM News previously reported that the deceased's husband reportedly found his son inside their property busy placing body parts of the victim inside a refuse bag.
Free State police at the time stated that the suspect then attacked his father with a knife, resulting in his father being hospitalised with serious wounds in his chest.

While attending the funeral of the slain Modiehi Mokoena, Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela lashed out at the ongoing victimisation of women and children in the province - and the country.
"Our plea was informed by such killings and the over indulgence of alcohol and drugs by our children. Violent crime has reached high levels and criminals have reached new lows by chopping their victims up into pieces.
"This animalistic behaviour where lowlifes murder defenceless women and dispose of them using plastic bags appears to be gaining momentum.
"These sickening crimes have a worrying factor. The suspects are known to the victims," she said.
Ntombela added that last year, law student Nosicelo Mtebeni from the Eastern Cape was murdered, dismembered and her parts were stuffed into a suitcase and a plastic bag. She also said that earlier this year another lady from the Eastern Cape was found dismembered.

A 65-year-old woman was also found murdered in her home in JB Mafora in Bloemfontein earlier this year.
Ntombela further said that the province will continue to increase its resources and efforts against GBV, and this includes the implementation of the National Strategic plan on GBV and femicide.
