Some of the roads in the metro where maintenance is done, include those in Vista Park, Ward 30 and 31 in Botshabelo, also ward 41 in Thaba Nchu. 

In a written question by a DA Member in the National Assembly, Werner Horn, to the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, a progress report was requested since the decision to place Mangaung under administration was taken. The reply stated the current road infrastructure in the municipality is very poor, however, road maintenance is dependent on a fully functioning fleet department within the municipality, which is at the moment not operating at the very best level.    

The reply further states that it was on 2 May 2022 when the Acting HOD for Engineering Services commenced his services, and that the road maintenance areas were identified for urgent attention and priority. The repairs that need to be done on these roads have been categorised as potholes repairs and complete re-sealing of critical roads. From 25 May 2022 until the end of June 2022, there was continuous pothole repairs across the metro and re-sealing of roads of an estimated 18,8km in length. The above-mentioned road maintenance is planned to start in July 2022, and it is unclear when maintenance on those roads will be completed.

Millions of rands have been allocated to contractors’ trainees for fixing Free State roads. The information that over R700 million has been allocated by the Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport to repairing potholes and cutting grass - since 2019 - was revealed by the minister of Transport in response to DA member of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), George Michalakis. The Minister’s response to the written parliamentary question pertaining to the Contractor Development Programme (CDP) in the province also showed that the CDP companies are all at a different level of training and in some cases work on-site had to be stopped for technicians from the road district authorities to assist.
