Evelyn Maruping, the founder of Northern Cape Starlet, told OFM News the event is aimed at aspiring actresses within the province to win the opportunity to film alongside the likes of Fezile Mpela, who’s one of the directors of the Northern Cape Starlet. Maruping’s project is focused on talent development, skills transfer and content development. All of this, to ensure that the winning starlet has what it takes to be Mzansi’s next star, refined right from the Northern Cape.

According to Maruping, the event is split up in two phases, with everything set to happen towards the end of September or October.

Currently, Northern Cape Starlet has a social media challenge aimed at whittling down the top 12 to make place for the top 6, with one of the starlets, Desmonia Goliath, who already won the first challenge. The multi-talented Desmonia, who also did short films at Masekane Art Centre, told OFM News she is a bit overwhelmed by the experience but is humbled and looks forward to the oncoming challenges.

Two more social media challenges are expected to follow and supporters can look forward to see which starlets will make it to the top 6.
