As part of commemorating Nelson Mandela Day, the Free State Premier officially opened one of the provincial roads.

Premier Sisi Ntombela led the Nelson Mandela Day celebrations on Monday in Makeleketla, near Winburg, in the Masilonyana Local Municipality. Accompanied by members of the Provincial Executive Council, Ntombela started the day's extensive programme by officially opening the R708 road between Winburg and Marquard. According to the statement issued, 21 local SMMEs were appointed during the construction of the road.

OFM News previously reported that Ntombela, had announced that over R1 billion has been allocated to construct over 10 roads in the province. She had also stated that the construction of these roads will create about 5 000 job opportunities.

Meanwhile, Ntombela stated that many more roads will be opened in the coming months following the opening of the R708 road. Her statement comes whilst the public is still in limbo with the notorious R30 road that has recently been in the spotlight for claiming many lives.

In her recent visits to the notorious R30 road between Allanridge and Bothaville, Ntombela had pleaded for national intervention. She had also requested the farming community to join hands with the provincial government in finding a lasting solution.
