Disgraced Free State officer found dead after police chase─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:24 Tue, 26 Jul 2022
A disgraced former Free State police officer, suspected of murdering his wife, was found dead after a police chase. He went on the run from the police after the body of his wife was discovered in Winburg on Sunday.
The 57-year-old disgraced former constable previously served a 10-year prison sentence for the murder of his girlfriend years ago.
According to police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, Winburg Detective Warrant Officer Smit received a tip-off on Monday that the 57-year-old Teboho Sekonyela was travelling with a blue Volkswagen Polo with FS number plates on the N1 at Ventersburg.
Thakeng adds that Sekonyela was spotted on the N1 and the warrant police officer, who was travelling in a police vehicle, switched on the police vehicle's blue lights and started to follow the suspect, who tried to drive off at a high speed.
"The SAPS member requested back-up and the N1 road was blocked by the Winburg SAPS, as he was travelling towards Winburg," Thakeng further adds.
The police allege the suspect lost control of his vehicle near Bell's Pass, about five kilometers from Winburg, on the old Brandfort Road, where he had an accident and ran away into the veld.
Sekonyela was later found hanging from a tree and was certified dead by Emergency Medical Services personnel (EMS).

Police on Sunday discovered the body of Sekonyela's wife, covered with a blanket, with strangle marks on her neck and arms.
This gruesome murder was discovered after the police received a tip-off from neighbours. Thakeng adds that a case of murder was then registered for further investigation.
This former police constable, who was dismissed for fatally shooting his girlfriend, was sentenced to ten years in jail. He got married again after his time in prison.
