Former Free State officer on the run after suspected murder of wife─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:53 Mon, 25 Jul 2022
A former Free State police officer, who previously served a 10-year prison sentence for the murder of his girlfriend, is allegedly now on the run after the suspected murder of his wife.
According to the police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, the police is on the lookout for the former constable officer, Teboho Sekonyela, who is driving a sky blue Volkswagen Polo. He says Winburg police on Sunday discovered the body of his wife, covered with a blanket with strangle marks on her neck and arms. This gruesome murder was discovered after the police received a tip-off from neighbours. Thakeng adds that a case of murder was registered for further investigation.
Sekonyela fatally shot his girlfriend years back and has since served a ten-year sentence.
"Neighbours became concerned when they did not see the deceased. They tried to call her on her cellular phone on 22 July 2022 but could not trace her. The husband was contacted and responded that his wife was in Pretoria. On 24 July 2022, at about 15:45, Winburg SAPS received a telephone call from one of the neighbours of the couple, residing at a house in Voortrekker Street, Winburg.
"Members responded instantly. All curtains, doors, and windows at this house were locked,” he adds.
Following the discovery, the husband was nowhere to be found.
“The deceased was identified as Nomathemba Sekonyela, born on 8 December 1980. The sister of the deceased in Pretoria has been informed about this incident.
“He is driving a sky blue Volkswagen Polo, with registration number HBH 073 FS, and anyone with information leading to the tracing of the husband and/or sedan vehicle can contact Detective Sergeant Lizelle van der Westhuizen, of Winburg Detective Services, at cell phone number 082-466-8875, or the police's emergency number 08600-10111,” Thakeng further adds.
