Three people have been arrested at the service delivery protests in Ventersburg on Monday afternoon. SAPS spokesperson Peter Kareli says the police arrested a 42-year-old woman and two men, aged 31 and 37.

Kareli says the SAPS pleads with angry community members to refrain from acts of violence, as it is a transgression of the law. He adds that no court date has been set yet for those who have been arrested.

Kareli says the N1 highway passing Ventersburg, and the R70 from Senekal, remain closed after protesters shut down part of the country's longest highway with rock barricades and burning tyres. Other parts of the road are open, and people are advised to use alternative routes.

OFM News previously reported that the N1 at Ventersburg in the Free State has been partially closed due to a service delivery protest.

Police spokesperson Loraine Earle says the protest started on Monday morning 26 September 2022, due to the community not having water for several weeks now.

She says they have had water problems in Ventersburg on-and-off for the past seven weeks, with no water for the past three weeks.
