Just a few weeks before the beginning of the final 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination, approximately 9 300 Grade 12 learners are currently undergoing a Spring School Support Programme in the Northern Cape.

The Northern Cape MEC for Education, Zolile Monakali, says the programme is aimed at giving the learners support to better understand their subject content in preparation for the last examinations. The programme that is held annually has been a great assistance to learners and contributes to the success rate. The Spring School Camps are being implemented as Residential, School-based and Walk-in Centres. A total of 46 centres are utilised across all five districts. “The main driver of the Spring Schools Support Programme is to consolidate high-value content and to ensure that learners enter the NSC examination without any content gaps. We have established dedicated centres for average-performing and top-achieving learners,” he adds.

Monakali further says that all the tutors assisting in the programme are matric level educators or Subject Specialists in their specific subjects and have been involved in the various provincial examination processes, either as markers or examiners. Because of the tutors’ experience, they are able to help learners to prepare for their final examination and provide a specific focus on problem areas. The department is confident that the Spring School Support Programme will contribute towards improving the 2022 National Senior Certificate Examinations pass rate in the province.

He concludes, saying that the Spring School Support Programme will be running up until 10 October 2022, whilst the 2022 NSC examinations are scheduled to commence on 31 October 2022. “We appeal to the broader public to support the Class of 2022 as they prepare for their final examination of their school career. Every child is a national asset and every one must succeed.”

The following subjects are offered in the programme: Geography, Afrikaans Huistaal, Setswana Home Language, Agricultural Sciences, Business Studies, Economics, History, Life Sciences, Mathematical Literacy, Mathematics, History, Physical Sciences, Accounting, Technical Mathematics, Technical Sciences, Engineering, Graphics and Design (EGD), and Consumer Studies.
