The timetable that was released by the South African Department of Basic Education shows that the National Senior Certificate examination will begin with English Home Language (HL), First Additional Language (FAL), and Second Additional Language (SAL) Paper One on Monday 31 October, and end with the rewrite of the Information Technology (IT) on 7 December. 

This will at least be the last group of matriculants whose two-year preparation and education process has been interrupted by the pandemic.

The class of 2022 has, during their years in Grade 10 and Grade 11, been interrupted by having to be schooled on a rotational basis due to Covid-19. Some of the learners will, on the first day of examination during the afternoon session, write Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telegu, Urdu HL, FAL, SAL Paper 1, Hebrew SAL Paper one and German HL, SAL Paper 1.

Earlier this year, the Free State Department of Education had to recover scripts of matric learners following a hailstorm in Thaba Nchu. 

Late last year during the marking of the scripts at one of the 23 marking centres in the Free State, the Albert Moroka Secondary, the roof was blown off by a hailstorm. A few of the teachers who were assisting at the centre that hosted markers of Accounting Paper 2 and Business Studies Paper 2, got injured when the roof caved in. 

The school’s halls, the marking centre, control room, and some classes were left damaged by the stormy weather. In the process of the storm, it was reported that some of the scripts were damaged. It was explained that officials and markers did their best to limit the damage to the scripts.
