The Sol Plaatje Local Municipality in Kimberley in the Northern Cape says repairs to stop water leaks are progressing well.

Residents have been without water since Thursday 6 October 2022 due to the repairs.

Municipal Spokesperson, Thoko Riet, gave an update and said they had successfully completed two sites on Saturday and the repairs in Carrington Road are also now complete.

OFM News previously reported that the municipality released a notice to inform the community of a planned temporary water interruption to repair water leaks at the Riverton Water Purification Works.

The refilling of the pipeline is expected to start by 22:00 on Sunday, and if all goes well, the water supply should be fully restored by Monday.

Riet added that the valve on the 600, which is between Riverton and Mid-station, is being tightened. She also said that the installation of a distance piece on Roodepan take-off is proceeding well, and should be completed in due course.

Furthermore, the cleaning of reservoir 45 is ongoing. However, it will not have an impact on the restoration of water. The cleaning of clarifier #5 is also still continuing, and this also does not have an impact on water supply.

Riet added that emergency water distribution in all areas around the city is also ongoing. “We have distributed water tankers and Jojo’s to most areas that requested water. The teams are currently also on site distributing water tankers and filling of empty Jojo's in the various wards.”
