The provincial spokesperson, Sergio Kock, says the incident took place in Lethabo Park, Roodepan, on 7 October 2022 at about 20:20. He explains that the victim, Tankiso Tawanyane, was allegedly raped by three unknown male suspects and later set alight with paraffin. Kock adds that the victim succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on 8 October 2022.

He further requested anyone with information to contact Captain Sebata Tsiu at 082-874-4613, sms anonymously to 32211, utilise the MySAPS app, or visit the nearest police station. Kock also stated that the Galeshewe Family, Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating the matter.

The Northern Cape Police has urged residents to break the silence and report cases of violence against women and children. This, as incidents of GBV continues to rise in the province and the country at large.

An alleged bogus medical doctor in the Northern Cape recently appeared before the court for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting patients.

In another incident, the body of an 11-year-old Relebogile Segami was discovered behind the Provincial Legislature's building earlier this year.
