SAPS warns citizens about the use of fireworks─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:40 Thu, 29 Dec 2022
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has cautioned residents to abide by laws and regulations governing the use of fireworks this festive season and also ahead of New Year's Eve.
North West police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, tells OFM News that residents must at all times practice safety measures when using fireworks.
She says children must never be allowed to hold, ignite or play with them.
Muburgh says fireworks must be used in designated areas and not in a crowded environment and indoors. She also cautioned that pets must be secured at all times during the use of the fireworks.
"New Year is a few days away and in the midst of festivities, South Africans have been reminded to abide by the laws and regulations pertaining to the use of fireworks, especially in the presence of children who are always excited to be part of it.
"The SAPS would like to reiterate that wholesale and retail dealers licenced in terms of the Explosive Act and possessing a valid licence issued by the chief inspector of explosives, may deal in the sale of fireworks.
"No fireworks may be sold by street hawkers or vendors at a flea market, from the boot of a vehicle or retailer or from a spaza shop," Myburgh adds.
