Calls for justice after murder of hospital employee in North West – VIDEO | News Article

The North West MEC for Health has called for justice to be served after a pregnant employee (35) of the Brits Hospital was shot and killed on Wednesday 5 April 2023.

The deceased was shot dead by her ex-husband, a police officer, on Wednesday morning in the parking lot of the hospital. According to the police, she was shot several times.

MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, said he believes the police and other law enforcement agencies will not let the family down but will ensure that justice is served.

Sambatha said the murder of this pregnant woman is a gruesome experience, shocking the family and the hospital staff.

"An unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday morning. An employee of the Department of Health was followed until she accessed the hospital. She was then shot and killed by the person who was following her," Sambatha said.

OFM News previously reported that the sergeant (39) handed himself over to the local police on the same day and is expected to appear in court soon.

Sambatha has requested the hospital management to meet with the affected family to redress them urgently. The hospital staff was offered the necessary support and counselling.

Meanwhile, the provincial Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, has since condemned both incidents and conveyed his deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Kwena has further urged police officials or employees to utilise the services of the Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) initiative and other professionals, bearing in mind that this is the second incident involving police officers in less than a month.
