Man sentenced to life in prison for raping minor─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:24 Sat, 27 May 2023
A 27-year-old man from Kroonstad in the Free State has been handed life imprisonment for raping a child on 10 September, 2019.
It is understood that the man, Lehlohonolo Deeu, was hired to transport children to a resort for the holidays. While at the resort, he made inappropriate advances towards a 13-year-old child, which she refused. Upon departure from the resort, Deeu first dropped off all the other children and then left the girl alone in the vehicle while he visited a tavern.
According to Free State Police media liaison, Josephine Rani, the victim asked Deeu to take her home as she needed to use the restroom. He then told her to use the tavern bathroom and followed her inside, where he raped the child in one of the toilet stalls. Afterwards, he took the victim home.
“Upon arrival at home, the 13-year-old victim told her mother about the series of events. They went to the police and opened a case of rape against the suspect. The investigating officer, Sergeant Sellwane Moodisa of the Kroonstad Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit, worked relentlessly to ensure that Deeu was brought to book for the crime he committed,” says Rani.
