Following the recent outbreak of cholera identified by the Department of Health in the Free State, the Gift of the Givers visited the affected area of Vredefort, 12 km from Parys, to assist stranded residents.
Approximately 2 304 x 5L of water bottles and 5 000 dehydration sachets were distributed on Wednesday to residents who are in the area where cases of water-borne cholera disease were identified.

The foundation’s chairman and founder, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, explained that after the organisation received information about patients who succumbed to the deceased a few days ago, their team from Hammanskraal was dispatched to Vredefort as part of their assessment.
The team visited the Monoto family where the mother, aunt, and grandmother died within three days leaving behind a traumatised teenage girl with her siblings.
“These children live in poverty and will require material assistance and counselling. A similar situation may arise elsewhere in the community,” said Sooliman.
