The IEC provincial spokesperson, Mmathabo Rasengani, said the voters' roll inspection will be closing on 19 June 2023 while the candidate nomination is set to close on 26 June 2023.
Rasengani said five wards in the metro are set for these by-elections. The wards include 7, 29, 49, and 50. These by-elections come after the ruling ANC, with the majority in the council, fired eight councillors in March 2023 for allegedly going against party policies and voting with opposition parties in the council.
