3 to appear in court for UIF fraud─── ZENANDE MPAME 13:21 Mon, 24 Jul 2023
A Free State trio is expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on charges of UIF fraud on Monday (24/7).
Two suspects attempted to receive benefits from the UIF by approaching the offices of the Department of Labour in Welkom and presenting forged paperwork on Friday.
They were interrogated by a UIF officer who become suspicious when they were unable to respond to all of the questions.
The UIF authorities conducted an investigation and learned that the suspects were never employed by the company as claimed on the claim form. Police were called and the two suspects were questioned and arrested.
Members of the Welkom-based Hawks' arrested the suspects on different days. The third suspect, who was connected to the case, was arrested in Bloemfontein on Saturday (22/7).
