Water-related issues persist in North West─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:14 Sun, 30 Jul 2023
Residents of the Potchefstroom-based JB Marks Municipality in North West continue to face water-related issues.
This is despite the attempts by the municipality to fix the issues of water supply to residents in and around the municipality. Spokesperson Jeannetta Tshite told OFM News they had occasional interference with the water supply.
Affected areas included Sonnerwater, Zakhele, and the surrounds. The unforeseen interruption had interfered with an adequate quality water supply and had led to water shutdowns.
‘Residents who need help with water tankers would have to notify the municipality’
"In response to the municipality's intervention Eskom already exempted the Ventersdorp road pump station and Potchefstroom water plant from load-shedding," Tshite said. “To continue water pumping reservoir filling and decreasing water shortages the decision was taken to replace the generator that malfunctioned in the water plant at Ventersdorp region."
Water tankers had been dispersed to supply water. Residents who needed assistance with water tankers would have to notify the municipality through their ward councillors.
On Thursday (27/7) the municipality told residents of Promosa, Mohadin, Ikageng Proper, and all Extension Areas that, following the notification of a temporary water shutdown due to repairs on a 600mm Bulk Line, the process went as planned.
The pumping of water back into the reservoirs was anticipated to resume that night due to technical difficulties the contractor had encountered during the operation.
