8 gang members expected to appear in Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court─── ZENANDE MPAME 13:25 Fri, 04 Aug 2023
These men were arrested for public violence, trespassing, malicious damage to property, and intimidation. They are expected to appear in court on Friday (4/8) for a formal bail application.
The incident which led to the arrest occurred on Wednesday (26/7) when a group of about 15 men stormed into the Matlosana building in Klerksdorp where they found the mayor, municipal manager, human resources manager, and other officials in a meeting. The invaders requested to be hired and introduced themselves as members of the so-called 1818 gang from the Kanana Location.
They allegedly insulted the human resources manager and threw chairs at municipal officials after being told there were no positions available, resulting in injuries to individuals as well as property damage. The arrested eight handed themselves over to the police.
Their first court appearance was on Monday (31/7) and they were identified as David Mbeloane (35), John Mokhele (38), Lehlohonolo Kgiba, Thabang Mpotle (36), Katiso Mokgatsi (37), Thabo Mafohla (39), Jabulani Sebeko (39), and Ephraim Mpedi (37).
