Residents help apprehend corrupt police officers─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 09:19 Sun, 20 Aug 2023

The communities of Bekkersdal and Fochville in Gauteng helped the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) bring two police officers allegedly involved in criminal activities to book.
The police officers were arrested for robbery, attempted murder and malicious damage to property. They allegedly robbed two victims of cash and cellphones on Friday (18/8), before setting fire to a car in Bekkersdal and running from the scene. IPID national spokesperson Robbie Raburabu said members of the community chased the two perpetrators, while others called the police.
While being pursued, a suspect allegedly fired shots at police and civilians. One of the suspects was caught and arrested.
“After being apprehended, the first suspect gave up his accomplice and a description of the getaway vehicle. A manhunt ensued until the second suspect was apprehended in Fochville
soon after that,” Raburabu said.
The two police officers will appear before Westonaria Magistrate’s Court on Monday (21/8).
