This will be at least the second attempt by the EFF to oust the mayor and speaker of the DA minority-led municipality.

The DA mayor and speaker of the Fezile Dabi Municipality in the Free State will on Monday (30/10) know their fate when the council votes on a motion of no confidence against them.

Mayor Dennis Khasudi and Speaker Sidney Pittaway face motions of no confidence brought by the EFF. This will be at least the second attempt by the EFF to oust the mayor and speaker of the DA minority-led municipality.

OFM News previously reported the EFF – led by its regional chairperson, April Motaung – seeks to remove the duo from their positions citing failure to improve the quality of service delivery to residents, among others.

On 22 September, the 31 council members failed to convene and debate the motion against Khasudi and Pittaway, whereafter EFF Motaung and Provincial Secretary Malefane Msimanga held a picket to hold officials accountable.

Motaung wants the two gone. “The mayor failed to show decisive leadership and steer the municipality in the right direction, instead the municipality remained stagnant and regressed.”

This special council sitting comes after the EFF scored a victory on a motion of no confidence and ousted another DA mayor, Jeff Zwane in Metsimaholo.

African Independent Congress Councillor Jack Malindi was elected to replace Zwane, who was ousted through a motion of no confidence brought by the EFF. Twenty-two councillors voted for the removal of Zwane and 12 voted against it.

OFM News previously reported that a forensic report allegedly implicated Zwane and said he interfered with the administration of the municipality and had a conflict of interest.
