“The objective of the petition is to solicit support from applicants who were denied posts in the hiring scheme led by the Gauteng Premier.”

ActionSA has yet to receive a response from Gauteng’s premier after it demanded access to the employment records of each person hired through the Nasi Ispani jobs campaign launched by the provincial government.

The party launched a petition on Thursday (30/11) to plead with the 1.2 million unsuccessful Nasi Ispani applicants who were denied posts by the programme to support their appeal. “We have unfortunately not received a response from the Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, and are still awaiting feedback regarding our appeal which we recently submitted,” said Gauteng ActionSA provincial chairperson Funzi Ngobeni.

“ActionSA’s appeal is in response to the provincial government’s decision to deny our request for access to the employment records of each person hired through the flawed programme.”

The Gauteng provincial government launched the Nasi Ispani jobs campaign to alleviate unemployment and facilitate access to job possibilities within the province. But Ngobeni called it “an electioneering strategy used by the ANC to secure votes within the province, enabling the party to continue exploiting state resources and maintaining control”.

“If Panyaza and the province remain adamant that they have nothing to conceal, they must be prepared to divulge any pertinent material that is of public interest,” he said.
