A 55-year-old foreign national will appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he was apprehended on 19 January 2024  for offering a bribe to a police officer.

According to police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, members of the Crime Prevention Unit were engaged in Operation Shanela activities when they apprehended three individuals without proper documentation.

“The 55-year-old foreign national arrived at the police station and attempted to bribe the officers to secure the release of the undocumented individuals,” he said.

The officers documented the bribe attempt and promptly arrested the individual. A case of bribery was initiated, and the suspect was held in police custody.

The detained undocumented individuals are also scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 22 January 2024.
