“The North West government will continue to roll out Thuntsa Lerole in all other municipalities in the province to make sure much-needed services are given to the residents of this province.”

The North West government is set to continue addressing pressing community issues as it kick-starts another phase of the accelerated service delivery programme Thuntsha Lerole.

The launch is planned for Rustenburg on Friday (15/3), led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile. Like most other provinces North West has been struggling with service delivery challenges ranging from infrastructure deficiencies to socio-economic disparities.

Mahatile will be leading the Thuntsa Lerole programme for the second time after he was joined by Deputy Health Minister Sibongiseni Dlhomo last year to officially hand over Ba-Ga Mothibi Community Health Centre in Sekhing.

“This Friday the Deputy President will join the provincial executive council in the North West province, in particular at the Rustenburg local municipality to roll out services to residents in the area,” said the Chief Director in the Office of the Premier Brian Setswambung.

He said part of the activities will include the handover of the newly built modern state-of-the-art school, new X-ray machines that will benefit the community of Tlhabane and pothole patching amongst others. The community will also receive agricultural support packages, while Mashatile will also be engaging with residents.

‘Nothing more but a money-making scheme’

“I must also mention that the provincial government continues to clamp down on shops that are not compliant. Beyond this Friday, the North West government will continue to roll out Thuntsa Lerole in all other municipalities in the province to make sure much-needed services are given to the residents of this province,” he said.

The DA and EFF leaders in the Provincial Legislature have accused the programme, aimed at accelerating service delivery, of being nothing more but a money-making scheme for those with proximity to the ANC-led government.

During the SOPA 2024 debate, Acting Premier Nono Maloyi emphasised the accelerated service programme is one of the major steps taken by the provincial government in intervening and helping municipalities.
