“The complainant was hit with a brick by one of the group members as he walked out. The group from inside the club allegedly attacked him.”
Free State police are investigating a case of assault after five men were allegedly attacked in King Edward Street, Willows, in Bloemfontein.
OFM News previously reported a video – of two men presumed to be students, whom three unknown men attacked – was circulated on social media platforms on Sunday (17/3), shortly after the incident.
Free State police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, told OFM News a 51-year-old man, who was also a victim, arrived at Park Road Police Station to open a case on Tuesday (19/3).
“According to reports made to the police, the complainant arrived at the Herb Hub, a club where herbs are allegedly sold, to fetch his nephew and three other friends. On his arrival in King Edward Street, Willows, the complainant alleged his nephew told him a group robbed him of his dagga and cash,” Covane said.
It’s understood the complainant, together with his nephew and friends, walked back into the club to inquire about the missing items and the situation became tense. The complainant was hit with a brick by one of the group members as he walked out. The group from inside the club allegedly attacked him.

According to Covane, the complainant fell down and momentarily lost consciousness. He got up and drove to a local hospital.
Police are conducting investigations. Covane emphasised the people who were attacked were not students and again refuted rumours one of the victims died during the attack.
