A funeral for a murdered DA municipal councillor and his mother will be held on Saturday (30/11).

At a memorial service held at the Bluegumbosch multipurpose centre on Thursday (28/11), friends, relatives, and co-workers of the slain Maluti-a-Phofung DA councillor came together to honour his life.

The funeral service of Moshe Lefuma (40) and his mother Dinah Lefuma (61) will be held at the same venue on Saturday (30/11).

“Moshe’s impact extended beyond what he did as a politician, and his generosity, kindness, and gentleness resonated with those around him,” said Maluti-a-Phofung DA Constituency Head Jafta Mokoena.

“His commitment to uplifting his community was unwavering, and in the DA, he was more than just a colleague but also a friend to many. As the DA we will remain steadfast in our pursuit for justice.”

It is alleged two unidentified men entered the home on Saturday (23/11), while Dinah was at home with her sons. They inquired about her oldest son, Moshe, who was sleeping in one of the bedrooms.

They went into his bedroom after being asked why they were searching for him, and she followed them. At that point, the youngest son heard gunshots and fled the house.

“Both bodies sustained gunshot wounds in their heads and were declared dead by emergency services, the motive for this killing is not yet known,” said Free State police spokesperson Molefi Shemane.

“The case is being investigated by the provincial serious and violent crime, murder and robbery unit in Bloemfontein after it was handed over for further investigation,” said Free State police spokesperson Lorraine Earle.

No arrests have been made. The police appeal to anyone with information to contact WO Tlever Mbele on 082 332 3418 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

The funeral service will start at 08:00 at the Bluegumbosch multipurpose centre.
