The police in Thaba Nchu have asked residents to help with any information that might help to solve a murder at Tabale Trust in Mangaung Metro.
A murder case has been opened at the Thaba Nchu police station after the body of a man (72) was found with gunshot wounds.
Officers received a call from cattle herders on Saturday (17/5) after they came across the body of a man lying next to a light-duty pick-up truck stuck in the mud in an open grazing veld.
“When police arrived at the scene, they initiated a search in the area that led to the discovery of the primary scene of the crime,” said Free State police spokesperson Thabo Covane.
“Several 9mm spent cartridges were found where the pick-up truck had initially stopped, and different shoe prints were observed on both sides of the deceased's vehicle tracks.”
It was evident from the preliminary investigation that the deceased was trying to flee from his attackers; he suffered two gunshot wounds, one in the chest and another in his face, he said.
The victim was identified, and his next of kin was informed of his death.
Any member of the public who might have information that might help in solving the case is requested to contact Sgt Thabang Dlamini on 082 467 6612.
