Sebokeng police are investigating an inquest after road maintenance workers discovered a decomposed body.

The police plead with anyone who has a missing loved one or who doesn’t know their whereabouts to go to the Sebokeng Forensic Pathology to identify the unknown man. 

It is alleged that the staff were cleaning the Golden Highway road on Tuesday (3/6) when they made this discovery and called the police. “Upon arrival, police found a decomposed body of an unknown person,” said Sebokeng police spokesperson Nthabiseng Mokachane.

“Upon further investigation, it was discovered that both legs were detached from the body, and were a few paces away. The gender of the deceased was verified as male by emergency services, and the body was taken to the Sebokeng Forensic Pathology for further investigation.”

No one came forward to identify or to claim the body in the government mortuary, she said.

‘Zamdela police seek assistance in tracing the unknown individual’

Meanwhile, Zamdela police are seeking assistance in tracing the next of kin of an unknown individual who was found dead on the R82 by a passer-by on Saturday (7/6).

“The deceased was found approximately 12 kilometres from Amelia section, a four-way stop towards Vereeniging,” said Free State police spokesperson Josephine Rani. “The deceased was wearing a grey tracksuit top and grey jeans.”
