CMG honours Mandela Day with heartwarming 67 minutes soup and bread drive─── REFILWE BEKANE 16:30 Fri, 18 Jul 2025

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Central Media Group (CMG) commemorated Mandela Day on Friday (18/7) by dedicating 67 minutes to serving those in need.
The initiative, spearheaded by Chimè Meyers and Caroline Kruger, along with some of the CMG staff, distributed nourishing soup and bread at two key Bloemfontein locations – Aliwal Street, Waverley, and near the Glaspaleis.
Every year on 18 July, Mandela Day is observed to commemorate the life of Nelson Mandela, the country’s first democratically elected president. It inspires people and communities everywhere to make a difference by giving 67 minutes of their time – one minute for each year of Mandela’s public service.

The organisation embraced this ethos wholeheartedly, aiming to bring warmth and sustenance to the less fortunate in Bloemfontein.
Kruger, one of the key organisers, expressed her joy in serving the community. “I love serving people, so it was very nice to serve soup and bread.”
Kruger also shared a minor concern that arose during the planning stages. “Even though there was a concern the soup might be too little and too much bread, we made it work.” Her remarks demonstrated the team’s commitment and ingenuity in making sure the project was successful.
The sight of warm soup and fresh bread being handed out brought smiles and gratitude to the faces of many. CMG’s 67 minutes for Mandela Day initiative not only provided immediate relief but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, community, and upholding Nelson Mandela’s vision of a better world for all through such acts of generosity.
It continues to demonstrate its commitment to the well-being of the communities it serves.
