Spring Soul Session in Botanical Gardens to kick off Tourism Month in Free State─── REFILWE BEKANE 09:00 Fri, 29 Aug 2025

Tourism Month will set off on a high note in Bloemfontein with a Spring Sunday Soul Session family picnic at the Free State National Botanical Gardens on Sunday, 7 September.
Free State MEC for finance, economic development and tourism Ketso Makume is set to officially launch the festivities at the event.
His department says this year’s launch aims to “unite people through the rich sounds of RnB and soul music, promising an unforgettable day for anyone who loves the outdoors and encouraging both locals and visitors to explore the province”.
The lineup includes 20 RnB and soul music DJs from across the province. The gates are open from 10:00 until 22:00.
Makume says his department is dedicated to placing the Free State tourism sector at the heart of the province’s economic recovery and reconstruction efforts, with the ultimate goal of creating much-needed jobs. He also encourages everyone to continue visiting and exploring the Free State as a top travel destination.
He further highlighted the province’s appeal, its breathtaking wildlife, active adventures, vibrant Kasi lifestyle, and the warmth and cultural diversity of its people.
At the picnic, food and drinks will be sold on-site. Braaiing will be restricted to designated areas. Attendees are allowed to bring cooler boxes, but glass bottles are not permitted.
This event is preceded by a Women’s Month dialogue hosted in Mangaung on Friday (29/8) by the deputy minister of tourism, Makhotso Sotyu. The event will commemorate Women’s Month by celebrating the significant contributions of women to the tourism sector.
The department of tourism says this dialogue serves as a strategic platform to support its goals of fostering inclusive growth and creating jobs. It aims to ensure the active involvement of all citizens, particularly women, youth and people with disabilities.
This year’s theme is Building Resilient Economies for All.
The Women’s Month dialogue is a collaborative effort with the Free State department of economic, small business development, tourism and environmental affairs (Destea), the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, and the Free State Tourism Authority.
