North West police are urging members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying the suspect or suspects after a body was discovered in Klerksdorp.

The body of Julian Richard (24) was discovered on Friday (28/8), on Nelson Mandela Drive, near the bridge that leads to Klerksdorp. The victim, who had suffered a stab wound to the left side of his neck, was declared dead at the scene by emergency and medical rescue services.

It is believed Richard and a friend had been socialising at a nearby club before the incident occurred. According to the police report, the two were standing outside when unknown suspects approached them.

During this encounter, the suspects allegedly robbed Richard’s friend of a cellphone. When Richard attempted to intervene, he was stabbed with a knife, resulting in his untimely death.

North West police spokesperson Col Adéle Myburgh has called on anyone who may have information regarding the incident to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Lungile Plaaitjie, at the Potchefstroom detectives. Plaaitjie can be reached directly on 082 779 7200.

Alternatively, members of the public can report any tips to Crime Stop at 08600 10111. The police continue to investigate the murder.
