The Northern Cape police have brought a smile to the face of one of the former community policing forum stalwart after she was showered with food hampers and money.

The generous gesture to Debbie Swartz (63), took place on Saturday (6/9), in Florianville, Kimberley. The deputy provincial commissioner for policing in the Northern Cape, Johnny Besnaar, led the initiative alongside members of his 1990 SAPS Maleoskop Training Institute intake and Kimberley Station Commander, Nicholas Mtongana.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Molefi Shemane said Swartz was a long-time and dedicated contributor to the CPF and Women Against Crime initiatives.

“Debbie played an integral and active part in the Kimberley Community Police Forum and structures, dedicating her time to the partnership and community over the years.”

Swartz, a passionate community leader, worked closely with the police and various civic structures for decades, volunteering her time to crime prevention and community upliftment. Her longstanding commitment did not go unnoticed by her peers and former colleagues, many of whom rallied together to show their appreciation.

“Major General Besnaar and his team, comprising of 30 reunion members of the SAPS 1990 Maleoskop Training Institute intake, initiated and pledged their support to the initiative following their quarterly meeting at the Horseshoe Inn in Kimberley.”

The event also saw the involvement of members from Kimberley Social Crime Prevention, the CPF, Kimberley Safety Participants, and Women Against Crime – reflecting a united front in giving back to those who have selflessly served the community.

In addition to the food parcels, the team handed over financial assistance to help ease the burden on Swartz and her family.

“The role of the police extends beyond traditional law enforcement, encompassing efforts to build stronger community relationships and address a wider range of public safety needs, ultimately striving to create safer and more supportive communities for all.”
