Mangaung Metro’s power utility is saddened by the deaths of two employees in separate incidents.

Okert (Ockie) Faber, a supervisory control and data acquisition specialist, passed away on Saturday (27/9) after suffering a heart attack at home, said acting Centlec spokesperson Tsheliso Leba. “The memorial service in his honour was held on Tuesday, and the burial is planned for Thursday.”

Meanwhile, Sarel May, 51, a manager in the health and safety department, was murdered in what appears to be a targeted shooting in the early hours of Sunday.

May was found behind the wheel of a white Toyota Vitz with gunshot wounds to the back of his head, according to police reports. The incident took place in Freedom Square, Mangaung, and is being investigated as a murder.

Officers responded to a shooting at approximately 04:00, said police spokesperson Thabo Covane. “Three suspects – one dressed in black with a balaclava, the other in a grey or white jacket, and the third in a brown jacket – walked towards George Lubbe Street after committing the heinous crime.”

Witnesses reported the victim was seen in the company of the suspects shortly before gunshots were heard. When emergency services arrived, May was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.

Centlec CEO Malefane Sekoboto extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of both the deceased during these trying times.

The entity said it trusts that the law enforcement agencies will undertake a full investigation and that those who are found to have committed the crime will be brought to book.
