Free State police confirmed on Wednesday (24/12) a post-mortem examination revealed the deceased to be a woman who sustained multiple fatal stab wounds. Further forensic tests will be conducted on individuals who have come forward to claim the remains.
This is to determine the biological identity of the deceased, said police spokesperson WO Mmako Mophiring,
The body was discovered on Saturday (21/12) at approximately 07:00 by an initiation school teacher collecting firewood in the area.

Upon arrival, officers observed a human leg visible above the ground. The body was exhumed and transported to a government mortuary for further examination.
Police are also investigating a missing person case reported in October 2025 in the Vogelfontein area, which is believed to be linked to the discovery.
At this stage, the identity of the deceased and the suspect or suspects involved remain unknown. Investigations are ongoing.
