Political killings task team investigating murder of Emfuleni accountant─── ZENANDE MPAME 13:54 Tue, 14 Apr 2026
The political killings task team (PKTT) is investigating the murder of the Emfuleni municipality finance official who was gunned down in Vanderbijlpark.
Gauteng police spokesperson Col. Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the docket transfer to the task team. The motive for the murder of Martha Mani Rantsofu had not been determined.
Rantsofu, 39, was laid to rest on Saturday (11/4). As an accountant in the municipality’s finance department, she handled municipal accounts and debts. She was gunned down in Vanderbijlpark on Monday (30/3).
CCTV footage making rounds on social media shows how Rantsofu was shot and killed while waiting for her vehicle at a tyre-fitting shop. An unknown man walked up behind her and fired multiple shots before running towards the getaway car.
“I want to urge the community to refrain from the rumours that they are spreading on this, which might have happened just to give the PKTT a chance to deal with this matter,” said Emfuleni mayor Sipho Radebe.
“Once the case has been concluded, then the municipality can release a statement on what happened. But currently, we don’t know. Speculations are being made on different platforms.
“All the stories we have seen are far from being the truth, so it remains a rumour that cannot be tested right now,” he said.
SABC News reports the municipality said it is confident police will arrest the suspect behind the murder of municipality employee Rantsofu.
Her brother Tsotang Rantsofu said his sister was due to graduate with an Honours degree in public relations from Unisa in June. “My sister loved her work and would often spend weekends at the office.”
At her funeral, Rantsofu’s family told reporters her case had been transferred to the PKTT for investigation because her murder was related to the killing of a municipal employee.
‘I am urging law enforcement to act swiftly on this matter’
“Mani was a dedicated public servant. I am urging law enforcement to act swiftly on this matter. Justice must be served,” said Emfuleni finance MMC Hassan Mako.
Rantsofu is survived by her daughter, her mother, and five siblings.
