Northern Cape police are investigating two cases of murder and one of attempted murder after a shooting incident in Olifantshoek.
A man, 54, and his wife, 51, were at a friend’s house in the early hours on Sunday morning (3/5) when they started arguing. Their son, 26, reportedly arrived to intervene.
The 54-year-old allegedly fired several shots, leaving his wife and son dead. Another woman, 36, was injured and transported to hospital for treatment.
“The suspect then reportedly fled to the home of a friend, where he allegedly sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Northern Cape police spokesperson Col Cherelle Ehlers.
“He was transported to the hospital for treatment, where he was placed under arrest and (remains) under police guard. Investigations continue.”
Meanwhile, Marisha Olyn, 30, from Rosedale in Upington, has been found guilty of the murder of her life partner, Nicozane Swartz, and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment.
The couple was involved in an argument in January, which led to the accused stabbing Swartz in the chest. He was rushed to hospital and succumbed to his injuries later that day.
Olyn was sentenced in the Upington Regional Court. ZF Mgcawu district commissioner Maj. Gen. Monica Sebili emphasised domestic violence remained a priority for law enforcement officials. “The police will work vigorously to ensure that cases are thoroughly investigated and perpetrators are prosecuted.”
Meanwhile, Fouriesburg police are appealing to the public for urgent assistance in identifying the body of an unknown deceased man who was allegedly dumped in a street in Mashaeng township.
On Thursday (30/4), a white VW Polo sedan was seen dumping the body. The deceased sustained multiple stab wounds.
At the time of discovery, the deceased was wearing blue jeans, a black and white round-neck shirt, black and grey socks, and no shoes.
Police urge anyone with information that can assist in identifying the deceased, locating his family, or leading to the arrest of the suspects to contact Sgt Motaung on 082 466 7649, or contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
