The Free State provincial government will on Saturday (22/8) hand over a new fleet worth R8.4 million to Ngwathe municipality as part of efforts to strengthen the municipality’s capacity to deliver reliable and effective services to communities.

Free State MEC for cooperative governance, traditional affairs and human settlements Saki Mokoena is expected to officiate the handover this morning at the municipal offices in Parys. The handover aims to improve the municipality’s operational capacity and ensure it has the necessary vehicles and equipment to respond more efficiently to service delivery needs across its communities.

The new fleet consists of a bus, a smooth drum roller, a compactor truck, and four bakkies. Departmental spokesperson Zimasa Mbewu said the vehicles and equipment will play an important role in enabling the municipality to carry out essential services more effectively.

“A reliable municipal fleet is critical to effective service delivery. The new equipment will assist the municipality with road maintenance, infrastructure repairs, and other day-to-day municipal services.”

The new fleet would also improve the municipality’s ability to respond quickly to service delivery needs across its communities. She said Mokoena had emphasised municipalities needed the necessary resources and equipment to deliver quality services to residents.

The handover forms part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to strengthen municipalities by providing them with the tools required to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
