Keneilwe Cecilia Letshwara was found dead at her home in Nyakallong on Monday, 7 September. Her hands and feet had been tied with rope. Emergency medical services were called to the scene and declared her dead.

A post-mortem found that she had been physically assaulted. Police say nothing was taken from the property and the motive remains unclear.

Free State police spokesperson Sgt Palesa Thabane said the kitchen door was unlocked when officers arrived. The yard was locked. 

“Direct access to the premises of the yard was locked. Police had to jump over the fence to gain entry. It is possible that the perpetrator managed to gain entry in the same way.”

Thabane said nothing appeared to have been stolen from Letshwara’s home, while investigators believe the crime scene may have been restaged.

Police are following all possible leads in an effort to identify and arrest whoever was responsible. Whether Letshwara knew her attacker will also form part of the investigation.

Thabane said police could not speculate at this stage about the relationship, if any, between the victim and the perpetrator.

Police have also found no link between Letshwara’s murder and another Allanridge case in which Fanie Fourie, 68, and his son Dawie, 40, were found dead in an outside room on 30 July. Their hands and feet had also been tied.

“Police are continuing with their investigations and resource deployment in tracing and ensuring that the possible perpetrator or perpetrators of this crime are apprehended.”

Members of the public are being urged to come forward with any information that could assist investigators or lead to the arrest of a suspect.
