The VKB Knights beat the log-leading Titans by 5 wickets on Saturday night according to the Duckworth-Lewis Method at the Mangaung Oval in the Momentum One-Day Cup.

The result was however not good enough to secure their passage into the in semi-finals of the 50-over competition.

The Titans batted first, scoring 323 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs. The former Knights captain, Theunis de Bruyn, played the innings of his life by scoring 183 off 142 deliveries. His innings included 20 fours and 4 sixes.

Following a break in play due to rain, the Knights had to score a reduced total of 282 runs in 40 overs for a win.

Andries Gous with 60 not out and Ryan McLaren with 59 not out led the Knights across the line. Raynard van Tonder, who replaced the injured Pite van Biljon scored 60 as well, while the stand-in captain, Rudi Second, contributed with 55.

The Warriors nine-wicket win over the Cape Cobras in Port Elizabeth secured them of their spot in the semi-finals, while the Highveld Lions hopes were dashed after their game against the Dolphins in Potchefstroom produced a no results due to rain.

The Lions finished as the wooden-spooners in the competition, while the Knights had to settle for fifth.

The Titans, Dolphins, Warriors and Cape Cobras will all contest the semi-finals next week.
