The Proteas fine-tuning ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup will be put to the test on Friday when they face Sri Lanka in their first warm-up match in Cardiff.

On Sunday the Proteas will conclude their time out in the middle during the second and final warm-up match with will be played against the West Indies at the County Ground in Bristol.

The Proteas have been together preparing for nearly two weeks ahead of the global showpiece which starts next week.

The national side has already indicated that adjusting to the conditions will be important, however, the fielding coach, Justin Ontong, believes that it is also about winning those defining moments.

“The fielding element is very important if you look at previous World Cups, there have always been defining moments in games.

“We know about those big moments.

“The Proteas always work hard as a fielding team and we know the importance of fielding at a World Cup, we’re not taking it for granted.

“We know that all of the other teams are very strong in this department.

“Our goal is to be the best fielding team going into the World Cup and that is something we always pride ourselves on and something we’re working towards.

“South Africa has always been up there in the top three teams when it comes to fielding but I think going into this World Cup, all of the teams are on par.

“It is about taking opportunities when they’re presented to you in the field, so that’s going to be very important.”

Played between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Sophia Gardens is scheduled to underway 12:30 on Friday afternoon.
