Klerksdorp born Australian International batsman, Marnus Labuschagne, become test crickets first concussion replacement in day 5 of the second Ashes test match between England and Australia.

In his debut test match, Jofra Archer wreaked havoc over the Australian batting line-up with his raw pace.

The West Windies born big quick would somewhat become the centre of attention on day 4 of the second test for hitting Australian Batter Steve Smith not once but twice in his first innings.

The first blow caught Steve Smith on the left forearm and the batter insisted on continuing with his innings despite this. The second, wouldn't be so fortunate. Steve Smith misread a Jofra Archer bouncing, turning his head on the ball at the last moment in an attempt to take evasive action. The ball struck Steve Smith on the neck, after which he retired hurt.

Smith later returned to complete his innings but was diagnosed with a late concussion. This would have Marnus Labuschagne come in as a replacement for the injured Australian Batsman, also becoming test cricket's first concussion replacement.

Marnus Labuschagne almost suffered the same fate as Steve Smith as the 25 year old batter, born in Klerksdorp, survived just one delivery before being smashed in the grill of the helmet by Archer in only the second delivery of his innings.

The 25 year old held out to top score for Australia, scoring 59 and aiding his country to securing a draw in the second Ashes test match.
