Swanepoel leaves Knights to join the Rhinos─── MORGAN PIEK 09:00 Wed, 30 Apr 2025

Aubrey Swanepoel, the former captain, will be parting ways with the Knights following three seasons with the team.
Swanepoel, who earlier in his career also played for the Knights, rejoined the side from Northern Cape Heat and immediately took over the captaincy.
The experienced all-rounder will be leaving Bloemfontein to join the Mpumalanga Rhinos in White River.
At 35, Swanepoel becomes the latest player to move on, and his departure has effectively put retirement rumours to rest.
Speaking to OFM Sport, Swanepoel shared his excitement about the next chapter in his cricketing journey.
“I'm just grateful for the opportunity. It’s a new adventure for me — I’ll be meeting new people, making lifelong friends, and playing the best cricket I can,” said Swanepoel. “I still feel I’ve got a few good years left in me, and I want to thank Free State and the Knights for the three seasons I’ve had with them.
“It’s been a really great time, but it’s time to move on. I’m looking forward to joining my new family, the Mpumalanga Rhinos, and grateful for the opportunity they’re giving me.

“They played an exciting brand of cricket last season, and I’m looking to grow further as a cricketer there.
“I don’t think a player is ever too old to learn, so I’m heading to White River with an open mind, ready to give my best.”
Meanwhile, top-order batter Lesego Senokwane has been linked with a possible move to the Titans, although the move has not yet been confirmed.
